A 60-MINUTE INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP WITH SHELLEY KARPATY

Creative Soul Revival

THURSDAY, JULY 2ND AT NOON ET

Somewhere along the way, a lot of us lose touch with the stories we used to love telling. This workshop is about finding your way back.

Together, we'll revive your creativity by breathing new life into old stories or sparking vibrant new ideas. We'll begin with short mindfulness sessions to settle in and clear the noise, followed by an image and a writing prompt to get your pen moving.

Here, you'll write uncensored, no filter, no second guessing. Then, in a safe and supportive space, you'll have the chance to share your writing aloud while a witness practices active listening. As the writer, you'll walk away with more confidence in your ideas. As the witness, you'll offer support and gratitude for what was shared.

That act of being truly heard changes everything. It opens the door to more honest, uninhibited writing. And because the conversation focuses on the process rather than the content, there's no critiquing and no judging. Just space to create and be seen.

This is writing the way it was meant to feel. Open, alive, and entirely yours.

Here's what you'll leave with:

In this workshop, participants will hone their observational skills through a five-senses exercise, diving deep into at least one sense as they look for joy and then write about it. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice mindset shifting through a specific type of cognitive reframing. Freewriting will give participants a chance to explore these concepts further. There will be time for sharing between participants as a way to connect with other writers and joy-seekers, and time at the end for questions.

Meet your instructor

Karen T. Smith

Karen T. Smith has been writing about joy for a decade, though she did not fully grasp that this was what she was doing until halfway through. Each day she writes about three good things, which are available in her daily newsletter on Substack. From delights in the garden to tasty food to finding coping strategies for cold weather and the dreaded Februaries, Karen has written for thousands of consecutive days in a row about good things, joyful things, things that help her light the dark. In doing so, she’s found ways to lighten the weight of the heaviness of aging, of the pressures of technology, of empty nesting, of difficult midwestern winters. As she will tell you, it turns out that joy is accessible to all of us, it’s right there waiting for us to find it. Join her in this hands-on, informative and fun workshop about finding joy. Let’s do it together! Let’s Write About Joy.

The Pause:

A creative community for midlife women

The Pause is a creative community for midlife women who feel something shifting and want a place to reconnect with their creative spark. You might be rethinking your work, your relationships, your writing, or even who you are in this season. You might be in the process of outgrowing old systems that aren't working anymore, or shedding a skin.

Here, you will find women who are thoughtful, curious, and willing to connect on a deep level. Women who are building new things. Women who are letting go of old things. Women who are simply trying to listen to their own voices again and to figure out what stories they really want to tell. If you are craving connection, inspiration, and steady forward movement in a supportive community, you are welcome here.
